If Plug-in Electric Vehicles (PEV) are to really florish, it will be necessary to have a very robust public charging infrastructure. Most of the current discussions are about PEVs charging at night in the home garage - and this will be true for many of the early adopters. But many potential owners do not have home garages and may need to charge during the day in a public facility. And even those that are able to recharge at night may want to "top the tank" during the day before returning home.

The Electrification Coalition is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit group of business leaders committed to promoting policies and actions that facilitate the deployment of electric vehicles on a mass scale in order to combat the economic, environmental, and national security dangers caused by our nation’s dependence on petroleum. In November 2009, the Coalition released its Electrification Roadmap, a sweeping report outlining a vision for the deployment of a fully integrated electric drive network. This is essential reading for understanding the impact of electrification of transportation. Click on the logo below to access the site and download a copy of this report.

On August 24, 2009, the California Public Utilities Commission issued Rulemaking 09-08-009, Order Instituting Rulemaking on the Commission's Own Motion to Consider Alternative-Fueled Vehicle Tariffs, Infrastructure and Policies to Support California's Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Goals. This rulemaking action is very timely and provides the most current thinking about the integration of PEVs with the grid.  The first major ruling was provided on July 29, 2010, for Phase 1 and work now continues on to Phase 2.  Click on the logo below to access the website for the Alternative Fueled Vehicle proceedings.

There are many companies, government agencies, universities, and private research organizations that are working on PEV technology and the integration of PEVs with the power grid.  Links to some of the more interesting websites are provided below.
